Heyday Canning Co – a startup on a mission to disrupt the ‘tired’ canned food aisle – has secured authorizations at Whole Foods nationwide, a couple of months after debuting at Sprouts stores nationwide.

The Heyday Canning brand – created by Kat Kavner (a branding and marketing specialist who spent her formative years at Sweet Earth and Clif Bar) and Jaime Tulley (an operations expert who met Kavner at Sweet Earth) – “will be launching in all regions of Whole Foods with all six SKUs except for California which will have our top 4 SKUs,” Kavner told FoodNavigator-USA.

“We are slated for launch in the second half of January, so we should start flowing onto shelves in the coming weeks. It’s quite unusual for a global buyer at Whole Foods to take a brand national right away and I think it's a strong testament to just how overripe the category is for disruption and how hungry buyers are for truly innovative products.”

Heyday’s sauce-simmered canned beans, also available at heydaycanning.com, were crafted in partnership with Ali Slagle, recipe developer for The New York Times and Bon Appétit, and are designed to pair with staples such as rice, pasta or vegetables. They come in six flavors:

● Harissa Lemon Chickpeas
● Kimchi Sesame Navy Beans
● Coconut Curry Chickpeas
● Tomato alla Vodka Cannellini Beans
● Enchilada Black Beans
● Apricot Glazed Baked Beans
